The Return of My Sanity

konstantin-planinski-395938

Hello, I’m back! And I hope to stay around for the foreseeable future, because …

My wedding is over!

I’ve met women who fell into a funk after their weddings — they were sad the day had gone by so fast, sad they’d never get to experience it again, didn’t know what to do with themselves now that they no longer had a wedding to plan,  etc. etc.

NOT ME.

Don’t get me wrong: I loved my wedding. I loved having a day where nearly all the people I love were in one room. I loved that everyone had made such an effort to celebrate our love. I loved dancing to my favorite songs surrounded by my parents, sisters, cousins, friends. I loved the cake. It was a beautiful day.

But what I didn’t love: being the center of attention for hours on end. Having my photo taken, over and over again. The constant worry about whether or not I looked my most beautiful and whether or not I was having the best day of my life. The anxiety that was so bad in the weeks leading up to the big day that it manifested physical symptoms, like a sore throat. (How do I know it was anxiety? It disappeared entirely the moment the wedding was over.) And not least of all, the way planning a wedding had taken away from all the other things I like to spend my time doing: reading, writing, building a career, taking care of my health, seeing my family and friends. You know, living.

I am so excited to be able to just live again!

I don’t get many things right the first time, and there are some things I wish I would have done differently when approaching the entire wedding-planning extravaganza (not least of all to just CALM DOWN) but I can’t go back in time. All I can do is learn from my experiences, which of course to me means writing about them in the hopes that someone else can learn from them.

So I want to get back to posting here more often. I would like to detail some stuffs I’ve learned about the (HIGHLY OVERRATED, in my opinion) wedding industry, for those who may, like me, put off getting engaged for fear of having to go through the whole wedding thing. But I also want to get back to talking about reading, and writing, and traveling (one thing that was not overrated? Our honeymoon destination–stay tuned!) and overall living.

So if you are still reading, thank you for bearing with me, and I am so happy to be back in this space again. What have you been up to? What have I missed? Let me know!
