The Good Things (September, Part V)

Oh hi, Friday, aren’t you a welcome sight for weary eyes.

The week started off well, with last weekend’s mix of languid wandering around Jersey City and actually being productive by hitting up the plant store and IKEA (I do so enjoy being domestic sometimes), stayed steady with mid-week drinks and fascinating discussion with one of the only people I know in real life who shares my nerdy tastes to a T, and then ended scarily with that train crash in Hoboken yesterday. I don’t take that train, and don’t know anyone personally who was hurt, but my heart goes out to those who were. There have been too many sirens in this area lately. I’m praying and hoping for a respite from them.

Some good things:

A Good Bookish Thing

Library of Souls was a bit of a disappointment; too long, too much action, not enough character. Perhaps I’ll do a series review at some point; I am looking forward to the movie. My current read is Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance. I don’t read enough memoirs, even though the few I have read I’ve loved (Just KidsThe Glass CastleWild), but that’s not why I’m reading this book right now. I’m reading this book in an attempt to understand the (baffling to me) support of a certain presidential candidate. So far, I’m getting some enlightenment, but I’m not very far in. Verdict to come.

A Good Entertainment-ish Thing

I’m currently in the hunt for the best Whedonverse podcast. I’ve downloaded several, and so far this one is my favorite, in which a hilarious gay man watches Buffy for the first time and makes fun of the terrible fashion choices and campiness that makes up much of Season 1.

A Good Writerly Thing

Climax of The Play Story figured out! (I think!) Hard at work on finishing this one.

A Good Seasonal Thing

Sitting in the sun when the air is cold.

A Good Habit-Shifting Thing

I generally try and keep my alcoholic beverage intake to seven drinks per week, as is recommended by Health. I generally fail. This week, what with the presidential debate, a long, convoluted discussion with my friend over scotch, and an upcoming birthday party tomorrow, I don’t think I’m on track to make it.

A Good Delicious Thing

Grilled vegetables on an actual grill are still the best. We will grill outside until it snows.

A Good Random Thing

My super crafty friend has started making upcycled sweaters. This is a woman who I’d hire to do all my shopping and styling every morning if I could. Her taste is impeccable.

A Good Thing to Look Forward To

IRELAND NEXT WEEK 😀

Have a great weekend!

Sounds like you’ve had an eventful, interesting week. Personally, I think we all need to avoid the election. It’s gone completely wrong. They need to do a complete reset on it.

Anyway, here’s to a fun weekend!

    • Ha, I would love nothing more than to avoid the election and not speak about it, but like I said in a previous post, I feel that this one’s just too important to stay silent. You have a great weekend too!
